Labyrinths of Washington, D.C.

Not to be confused with mazes, tucked away all around the D.C. area are these little places of calm and reflection.

We here at Traipse have long had a fascination with labyrinths. These large swirling patterns, built into the ground, often found in quiet parks, seem to hold a magic of their own. The very definition of the word "traipse", "to walk around casually without a specific direction, especially for pleasure", feels perfectly suited to exploring these places.

Labyrinth at Brookside Gardens

"A labyrinth is a meandering path, often unicursal, with a singular path leading to a center. Labyrinths are an ancient archetype dating back 4,000 years or more, used symbolically, as a walking meditation, choreographed dance, or site of rituals and ceremony, among other things. Labyrinths are tools for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths evoke metaphor, sacred geometry, spiritual pilgrimage, religious practice, mindfulness, environmental art, and community building." -The Labyrinth Society

Accordingly, we've built a tour of all the publicly-available labyrinths in the Washington, D.C. area!
