The March King

A new tour about the life and influence of John Philip Sousa in Washington, D.C.

John Philip Sousa

John Philip "The March King" Sousa's musical compositions and military marches have defined the soundtrack of American patriotic music for over a century.

Sousa's childhood home in southeast Washington, D.C.

A native Washingtonian, Sousa grew up in southeast D.C. and followed in his father's footsteps (albeit not by his own choice as you'll discover), by joining the U.S. Marine Corp Band which resides at the barracks near his childhood home. A long, storied career and world-wide fame would follow.

The National Portrait Gallery is one of the nine stops where you'll seek Sousa!
